What is FilmCraft

FilmCraft is ArtCraft's open-source nonlinear video editor. It now publishes a WebAssembly release alongside desktop builds, so a browser workflow is available even though older guides describe it as desktop-only.

Source code is published under MIT or Apache-2.0. The app and its bundled assets have their own notices; this independent site keeps the upstream web build unchanged.

How to use FilmCraft online

  1. Import a small test clip

Choose a short, non-sensitive sample in a format supported by the browser release.

  2. Make a short sequence

Place the clip on the timeline, make a cut and preview the result.

  3. Save and test an export

Download the project and try a short output before building a longer sequence.

Run FilmCraft in a browser tab .

Make room for the work

Build a sequence

Bring a small set of compatible clips into a timeline and establish the edit before adding effects.

Shape the pacing

Trim and arrange clips while checking the relationship between picture and sound.

Test the delivery path

Try a short export early. Browser media support, codecs and hardware capabilities can differ from the native build.

What you can and cannot do yet

Use the features above as a starting point. Keep these limits in view:

  • A web release now exists, but browser and native media capabilities can differ.
  • Codecs, hardware acceleration, large files and export paths depend on your build and environment.
  • Premiere project, plugin and professional delivery compatibility should not be assumed.

FAQ

A few things to know before you start.

Does FilmCraft have a browser version?

Yes. The current upstream release includes a filmcraft-web archive. Older descriptions saying it has no web build are outdated.

Will every video format play in my browser?

No universal codec promise is made. Test a short clip from your actual camera or source and verify both playback and output.

Is rendering handled by this server?

No. This website serves the app files; editing and supported browser processing run on your device. There is no server rendering queue.
