A different route into image editing

A free open-source Photopea alternative

Try PhotoCraft if public source code and a local desktop option matter to you. Test a copy of your PSD before moving an important project.

Why consider PhotoCraft?

PhotoCraft offers public source code, a native desktop option, and a browser build you can try without installing anything. Its layered workflow includes masks, adjustments, type and brushes. This website hosts an unmodified upstream browser release.

Make the choice around a real file

  1. List what your project needs

Include file types, fonts, layer effects and the format you must deliver.

  2. Try a duplicate in both editors

Inspect the layers and rendering, make a small change, then export or save.

  3. Reopen the output

Check the saved result in its destination application. Keep an established editor available if a feature or file does not work.

The tradeoff is maturity

The upstream team calls PhotoCraft early alpha. It is worth exploring alongside your current workflow, especially when source availability matters. It is not a promise that every Photopea feature or PSD will behave identically.

FAQ

A few things to know before you start.

Is PhotoCraft an exact replacement for Photopea?

No. Both support layered image editing, but their implementations and format compatibility differ. PhotoCraft is an early alpha. Keep Photopea or another established editor available until you have tested your actual workflow.

Can I try it without installing anything?

Yes. Use the PhotoCraft online page to launch the browser build on this server. You do not need to register. A modern desktop browser is recommended.

Is open source the same as a license for my artwork?

No. A software license covers the editor's code. You remain responsible for the images, fonts, templates and other content you bring into your work.
